Web search and page reading for Claude Code
One command gives Claude Code a set of web tools: search many engines as one, read pages and PDFs, and get back the passages that answer the question, each with its source.

Set it up#
1. Get an API key
Create an account at clawifi.dev/signup. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month. Copy the key the console shows you (it is shown once) and keep it in an environment variable,
CLAWIFI_API_KEY.2. Add the hosted server
Run this once. It registers Clawifi’s hosted MCP server over HTTP and sends your key as a bearer token; nothing to install.
claude mcp add --transport http clawifi https://api.clawifi.dev/mcp \ --header "Authorization: Bearer $CLAWIFI_API_KEY"3. Or run it locally
If you prefer a local server, install the package and add it with your key. Both use the same tools and credits.
pip install clawifi claude mcp add clawifi -e CLAWIFI_API_KEY=your_key -- clawifi-mcp4. Ask for something on the web
Start a new session and ask a question that needs the web, naming Clawifi if you want Claude Code to use it.

Example prompts#
Use Clawifi to read the release notes of the latest httpx version and tell me whether anything breaks our use of AsyncClient. Quote the passages you used.
Search the web with Clawifi for how other projects pin ruff in pre-commit, read the two most relevant results, and suggest a config for this repo.
Read https://docs.python.org/3/whatsnew/3.13.html with Clawifi and list the changes that affect asyncio, with the passages you used.
Before you call anything expensive, use Clawifi’s estimate to price crawling 50 pages of our docs site, then tell me the credit cost.
Questions#
How do I add Clawifi to Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http clawifi https://api.clawifi.dev/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $CLAWIFI_API_KEY" with your key in CLAWIFI_API_KEY. The local alternative is pip install clawifi and claude mcp add clawifi -e CLAWIFI_API_KEY=your_key -- clawifi-mcp.
Should I use the hosted server or the local one?
Either. The hosted server needs no install and no Python; the local clawifi-mcp runs on your machine and calls the same API. Tools, limits and credits are the same.
Do I need a key to try it?
Without a key, search_free, fetch_url, scrape_url and map_site work on the hosted server as a trial: 12 calls a minute and 50 a day per address. A free API key includes 1,000 credits a month and opens every tool.
What does it cost?
Most calls cost 1 credit and a browser render 3. Cache hits and failures on Clawifi’s side cost 0; a page whose site answers with an error (such as a 404) is charged as usual. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month. See Pricing.
