Web search and page reading for n8n

Connect Clawifi to an n8n AI Agent through the MCP Client Tool node, and the agent can search the web, read pages and PDFs, and return the passages that answer each question, with sources.

What Clawifi gives n8n#

n8n workflows run on a schedule or a trigger. With Clawifi attached to the AI Agent node, a workflow can research a lead, read a supplier’s page or check a competitor’s changelog, and pass sourced text to the next node.

  • Search: search_free searches many engines as one and returns ranked results with their sources.
  • Read: fetch_url and scrape_url read pages and PDFs as Markdown; with a query, scrape_url returns only the passages that answer it.
  • Parse and discover: extract_url pulls structured fields from a page; map_site lists a site’s URLs; start_crawl and get_crawl read several pages.
  • Jobs, history and monitors: create_job, get_job, list_history and list_monitors for longer runs and scheduled checks.
  • Cost first: estimate prices a call before it runs, and the account tools show your credits.

Set it up#

  1. 1. Get an API key

Create an account at clawifi.dev/signup. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month. Copy the key the console shows you (it is shown once) and keep it in an environment variable, CLAWIFI_API_KEY.

  2. 2. Add an AI Agent with an MCP Client Tool

In your workflow, add an AI Agent node with a chat model. On its tool connector, add the MCP Client Tool node (n8n docs).

  3. 3. Fill in the node

Set these fields. For the credential, choose Bearer Auth and paste your key as the Bearer Token (or Header Auth with Name Authorization and Value Bearer <your key>).

    FieldValue
    Endpointhttps://api.clawifi.dev/mcp
    Server TransportHTTP Streamable
    AuthenticationBearer Auth
Tools to IncludeAll, or Selected (for example search_free and scrape_url)
  4. 4. Run the agent

Open the chat or trigger the workflow and give the agent a task that needs the web.

Use Clawifi to search for news about {{ $json.topic }} from the last week and summarise the three most relevant articles with their links.

Questions#

How do I connect Clawifi to n8n?

Attach an MCP Client Tool node to an AI Agent node, set Endpoint to https://api.clawifi.dev/mcp, Server Transport to HTTP Streamable, and Authentication to Bearer Auth with your Clawifi API key.

My MCP Client Tool node only shows an SSE Endpoint field. What now?

Older versions of the node offered Server Sent Events only; current versions add HTTP Streamable and make it the default. Update n8n, then set Server Transport to HTTP Streamable.

Can I limit which Clawifi tools the agent sees?

Yes. Set Tools to Include to Selected and pick the tools you want, for example search_free and scrape_url. Fewer tools make the agent’s choices simpler.

What does it cost?

Each tool call is billed like the API route it runs: most cost 1 credit and a browser render 3. Cache hits and failures on Clawifi’s side cost 0; a page whose site answers with an error (such as a 404) is charged as usual. The Free plan includes 1,000 credits a month. See Pricing.
